Presidential visit for Chipolopolo
"What you have to bear in mind is that the people of Zambia support you. When you start on Monday, fight! Be brave and fight like the freedom fighters who won independence. You have won the cup once, but we want you to win it again; so don't worry about anything. Go and play and even if you meet the hosts at any stage, go and wallop them," President Sata said to massive cheers.
President Sata was accompanied by First Lady Dr Christine Kaseba, Sports Minister Chishimba Kambwili and other senior government officials and diplomats.
He was welcomed at the Protea Hotel Nelspruit by FAZ president Kalusha Bwalya and executive committee members of the Football Association of Zambia, diplomats and representatives of the Premier of Mpumalanga Province.
FAZ chief Kalusha commended President Sata for his support and encouragement stressing that his unwavering commitment to the team and game was outstanding.
"Your excellency, we are pleased to welcome you. We are encouraged by your presence and your commitment and support to the team and FAZ. The whole team will be greatly encouraged and motivated throughout the tournament," Kalusha said.
Reigning and defending African champions Zambia open the defence of their title with a 1700 hours kick against Ethiopia at Mbombela on Monday.
