TRANSFER GOSSIP
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has been given permission to bolster his squad in the January transfer window and has made Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, 20, and 26-year-old Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko his top targets.
Barcelona are interested in signing long-term Newcastle target Mathieu Debuchy. The 27-year-old full-back has recently admitted his disappointment that a move to the Magpies from Lille could not be agreed in the summer.
Manchester United could make a new move for striker Robert Lewandowski, 24, after Borussia Dortmund revealed they are struggling to get the Poland international to agree to extend his contract beyond 2014.
OTHER GOSSIP
Chelsea medical staff believe scans will show captain John Terry, 31, escaped a serious knee injury after a collision with Luis Suarez in Sunday's 1-1 draw with Liverpool.
South Africa have abandoned their attempts to persuade Norwich midfielder Andrew Surman to play for them at the Africa Cup of Nations. The 26-year-old was born in Johannesburg but has four England Under-21 caps.
Liverpool are yet to open talks with stand-in goalkeeper Brad Jones despite the fact the 30-year-old's current deal expires in the summer.
