Robin van Persie completed a hat-trick to make amends for a poor second-half penalty miss as Manchester United took all three points at Southampton.
Rickie Lambert opened the scoring with a towering header before the Dutchman equalised for Sir Alex Ferguson's side during his 1000th league match in charge.
Morgan Schneiderlin's thumping header put Saints in the lead and then Van Persie saw his penalty turned away by Kelvin Davis, but then he pounced from close range and headed in a late corner.
